------- MORSE READING PROGRAM ----------- Copyright G0MDO 1991/2000 RMORSE.EXE is a DOS programme to read Morse Code from a straight or paddle key. Iambic keying is provided for a twin paddle. Side tone is provided by the internal speaker. The key should be connected to any of the COM ports 1 to 4. Make sure the one you chose does not conflict with a mouse. Do not use an electronic keyer unless the output is by relay contact and the straight key facility is used. Messages received can be filed as a text file so the program can be used as a simple word processor. Read Morse, Straight Key. ------------------------ The key must be connected between pins 4 and 5 on a 25 way D connector or pins 7 and 8 of a 9 way D connector. The receive speed is preset to 12wpm and the program may require a couple of characters before synchronisation is achieved. The program can track changes of speed. On completion of sending the speed for characters and the overall word rate is given. The word rate is calculated from the number of elements in the message and the overall time. The character rate is calculated from the average dot and dash time. The dot to dash ratio is also given. Iambic Keyer ------------ A single paddle will produce dots or dashes, a dual paddle will send Iambic. The connections are: 9 pin D 25 pin D Dot Paddle 8 5 Dash Paddle 6 6 Common 7 4 Speed is set when this option is selected Operation --------- In operation CT is decoded to + and AR to @, BT is recognised as New Line. The first character received and characters following a full stop are in upper case, all following characters are lower case. Backspace is achieved with the erase code of eight dits. Punctuation recognised is comma, full stop, question mark and slash. Any unrecognised character is shown as an underline. When the screen is full lines of text scroll up until the maximum of 200 lines is reached. To end the message press the ESC key or send SK (VA if you prefer). If you want to file the message enter a file name at the closing prompt, if no file name is entered the message will be erased. This program is free and may be copied and passed to friends.
